The ECO 19 event, with its focus on digital health care, provided a positive outlook for the future of health care and highlighted the many possibilities for innovative digital systems. As an employee of Denver Arc Ltd, a company with the design and application of digital health care systems at its heart, it was an overall inspiring experience. The event hosted both speakers and attendees, who share a passion for new technological solutions, which are aimed at improving health care services and bringing care closer to home. The message was one that was patient focused, with the main features highlighting existing problems with our current health care system, offering positive solutions and challenging the issues regarding the implementation of new technology.
The event was extremely well organised, the environment welcoming and well laid out. The speakers provided professional insight into the everyday care of patients and the challenges faced by health care providers. Additionally the presentations were delivered in a straightforward and down to earth manner, without the use of technical jargon. Overall, the presentations were informative, interesting and delivered with a warm touch of humour. It was a privilege to hear a patient share his personal experience of using new technology to monitor and control his care. His journey from sceptic to advocate, expressing initial apprehensiveness to feeling empowered, further emphasised the importance of such technology if we are to allow patients more control and increase independence. The event also allowed for the showcasing of innovative systems, for example virtual assistance to improve care monitoring.
I personally thoroughly enjoyed ECO 19 and will definitely be attending ECO 20, which I am very much looking forward to.
